Immerse yourself in the rich visual language of the Pacific Northwest with this intensive crash course in Northern formline design of the Tlingit Tribe of Alaska. Perfect for beginners and art enthusiasts alike, this workshop begins with a foundational look at the history and cultural significance of this powerful art form as told by Native Tlingit Storyteller and Artist, W茅idaak谩 Y贸od贸ohaa (Bill Pfeifer, Jr.). Students will then dive into the core principles of formline structure, mastering traditional drawing techniques and shapes like ovoids and U-forms. Finally, the session culminates in a collaborative, step-by-step design project where participants will bring their new skills to life under expert guidance. Student Supplies
Students can choose their own medium for this workshop. Bring聽paper, pencil, eraser and colored markers, and/or a drawing tablet with drawing software like iPad with Adobe Fresco.聽 Note: If you choose to work on your tablet, you should be very comfortable using it and its software. This workshop is focused on design. We’re not able to offer tech help to individual students.
