Explore how artists move from direct observation into studio-based work using memory, attention, and translation. Begin at Luther Burbank Park, using drawing and note-taking to gather visual and sensory information from the site. Transition to an indoor workspace at the community center, to rework these observations through drawing and simple material exploration. Participants will consider what is carried forward, what shifts, and how memory reshapes what was seen. Discuss bringing fieldwork to ongoing studio practice. This workshop is suited for artists interested in observation, abstraction, and developing ideas from place.
Student Supplies
Suggested materials: sketchbook and drawing tools (pencil, charcoal, ink, or pen). A portable chair or cushion is recommended for the outdoor portion of the workshop.
